Material & Design Details

French Style – Cobblestones made from Italian porphyry have been used for centuries as street pavements in many French cities and villages, admired for their timeless character and exceptional durability. Porphyry is a natural stone formed from volcanic activity and contains volcanic glass, making it extremely hard and resistant. Due to its composition, cutting porphyry into regular cobblestone shapes with straight surfaces is a highly skilled and demanding process.

Inspired by the charm of traditional French streets, HSN has carefully studied these classic paving styles and developed a selection of cobblestones in similar natural colour tones. This allows the beauty and authenticity of historic European streets to be recreated while making this remarkable material accessible for modern architectural and landscape projects.

Italian porphyry is known for its outstanding hardness and very low porosity and permeability, which means it resists water absorption and requires virtually no maintenance. Its performance has been proven over hundreds of years of use as durable street paving in demanding environments.

Depending on the project requirements, the cobblestones can be installed either on a stabilized sand base or on a concrete foundation. The joints can be filled with split stone (broken stone) for a traditional appearance, or with grout for a more stable and uniform finish.
