Material & Design Details
Pumice Lava is a natural volcanic stone formed during regular volcanic eruptions, when hot volcanic ash and scoria are expelled from the volcano and flow down its slopes. As this material cools rapidly, a structure with abundant open pore space is created, giving the stone its characteristic lightness and highly porous texture.
With its andesitic composition and high content of open pores, Pumice Lava combines high porosity and permeability with impressive hardness and strength. The stone is rich in ferro-magnesium crystals and contains traces of sulfur, a combination that naturally resists fungal growth even in wet conditions.
When exposed to water, Pumice Lava absorbs moisture and transforms into a deep, beautiful black color, enhancing its dramatic volcanic appearance. Although the stone can become warm under full sunlight, the air trapped within its porous structure helps prevent extreme surface temperatures.
Despite its porous nature, Pumice Lava is hard and strong enough to be processed into tiles. It is especially recommended for water features and wall cladding, where its unique texture, color transformation when wet, and natural durability create striking architectural and landscape effects.
